Supercharged boat ready races are not on the list of 10 best-selling private water vehicles for nearly a decade. That is, until 2017, when Yamaha GP1800 WaveRunner came in 6th place, beat naturally-Aspirated Recreation-the engine segment left and right. Being the prime year for GP1800, the Shining course of renewal helps increase demand. However, what exactly elevated the craft from being “Svho-powered VXR ” Sports The driver Runabout is the design.
The done-and-dialed Super Vortex High Output 1, 812cc, centrifugally-supercharged four cylinder mounted into the NanoXcel2-Molded body delivers the leading craft strength-to-weight ratio. This adaptation to the aftermarket handling and performance parts pushes it even further. Tipping scales in 769-Pounds, GP1800 Lightweight, torquey and very responsive. Needless to say, the racer took to the craft immediately and the podium finished followed in the type. And they keep coming.
With a bit of competition on the road impacts both for industry and sports, as well as the appeal of mass consumers, 2017 GP1800 easily acquired The watercraft Journal “Watercraft of The Year ” award. It’s also chosen as the preferred vehicle to be the latest limited edition “GP1800R ” from RIVA Racing, as well as a special edition offer from the Dean team. And why not? An airstrip removes and an ECU song pushes it to 79-80mph. Stir in the upgrade intercooler and Prop are direpitched, and GP1800 is able to 86mph throughout the day.
Major offshore endurance events such as the Mark Hahn Memorial 300 and Long Beach-to-Catalina Championships – which pack the first place two times in a row, respectively. By all observers, the machine seemed tireless in domination, and understandably so. It is ranked third best PWC sales for the first half of 2018, coming only 55 units behind the second place Sea-Doo Spark Trixx (Best Seller 2017).
Frankly, GP1800 changed the landscape for Yamaha, and because of this machine, the future lineup of WaveRunner has been directly performed. “Strong private water vehicle sales this summer, and we exceeded expectations across the board, selling out of some of our most popular models,” said Bryan SETI, General Manager of Yamaha boat. “With the introduction of this product that highlights many new features and technologies that have never been seen before in the industry, we hope to build on our momentum and continue to deliver the best water experience to our customers.

For 2019, Yamaha GP is becoming more ready to race as a new GP1800R. That’s right, “R ” is Back, baby! It’s no surprise that Yamaha is working very close to some of the most prestigious racing teams in the world, and part of that partnership is regular feedback and feedback. Using what Intel provided, Yamaha upgrades GP1800R with Top-Loader intake and race-designed up plates for greater precision and predictability in coarse water. In fact, the word appears several times during our introduction.
“We are really focused on increasing predictability,” says Scott Watkins, WaveRunner Product Planner Yamaha Watercraft. “The new ride plate is longer to reduce the bow rise when accelerating fast. The planning surface tilts a little to just the right amount of rocker to give you the right GP1800R riding attitude for optimal top speed. Additionally, the edge of the planning surface helps GP1800R Track straight at a higher speed. “
Similarly, scarring a new intake of foil features that feeds water onto the impeller to increase traction and keep the pump connected to maintain maximum thrust when spinning. Additional improvements include ship hull reinforcements around the pump tunnel and redesigned brackets for additional strength battles on scar intake. The new color options are just small from last year’s offer: Torch Red Metallic and Black, and the Yamaha team is blue and white with yellow neon accents.
With the loss of VXS two years ago, VXR stood apart – especially now that Yamaha has made VXR a natural-Aspirated version of the GP1800R. “This year we really want ‘ R ‘ to mean something, ” Watkins tease, reveal the upgrade to the new 2019 VXR. Not only does VXR accept the same re-scar intake and ride plates as GP1800R, but also drops 30-pounds of weight loss thanks to the addition of gastric NanoXcel2 and deck. 155mm pump fixed.
“With the 2019 performance upgrade, we took a proven design on the racing course by the best riders in the world, and made something that customers could get right out of the box, ” said Watkins. “The result is a new character for this WaveRunners, that recreational riders and racers alike will find the fuel of their desire for an ultra high performance experience over the water with incredible handling. ” Livery option is a torch Red Metallic-and-white, and a team of very similar Yamaha blue-neon-yellow-and-white patterns to associate VXR to its supercharged siblings.
The addition of the race-ready Yamaha lineup “R-equipped ” Runabouts is a surprising EXR fun. In addition to entry level Yamaha series EX almost our personal favorite of the bunch. EXR being the “most affordable WaveRunner for Yamaha’s high-performance features, the super-lightweight NanoXcel2 Hull and Deck materials,” according to Yamaha. Came in at a less than 540 pounds-full 60-pound less than ex Deluxe-it includes top-loader scarring and expansion of 40mm pumps for increased agility, handling and performance.
Alas, the biggest change we’ve saved to last: a 100-percent, All-New FX WaveRunner lineup. “As the flagship of the line, we actually put some thought into how to update the FX series to create an amazing experience on water for our customers,” says Watkins.
Ergonomically, FX is also enhanced, with self-draining footwells that are wider, and shallower than ever. RUBBERIZED perforated chiffon feed tube that runs down the long hull into the pump.
Perched in front of a 5-point Tilt-steering (equipped with a Yamaha RiDE dual-throttle brake/reverse system) is the first in the colourful industry, the touchscreen instrumentation panel. FX’s 4.3-inch LCD multi-color touchscreen system is called “Connext ” and offers “All vital system information, customizable features and includes a new drive Control technology to personalize the riding experience.”
The new last big feature for FX is the RAM multi-Mount System. This accessory includes portable waterproof ECOXGEAR wireless Bluetooth speaker and Garmin GPS fish Finder and transducer.
